Doctor Who // The Woman Who Fell To Earth

The Doctor.

Tonight, the new episode of Doctor Who premiered, with the brand new Thirteenth Doctor.
This isn't just like any other regeneration either, this is the first time the Doctor has been a women.
And I'm not going to lie, I was hesitant when she was cast. Although that's probably mostly because I did not want to let go of Peter Capaldi.

But Jodie Whittaker has completely won me over.

I love Doctor Who.
It is my favorite show of all time, and I truly truly believe it is the best show ever put on television.
I love this show because of I love the Doctor. I love that he, or now she, believes in imagination and dreams and kindness. Over the past 50 years, the Doctor has explored so much of time and space, bringing along all sorts of people, and he always done it with optimism. With hope.

Never cruel.
Never cowardly.
Never give up.
Never give in.

That is what being the Doctor means. It doesn't mean being the hero, it means helping people who need help. It means experiencing the magic the universe has to offer.

Over 2,000 years, the Doctor has seen so many terrible things. He has lost so many people, even his planet.

But he still looks to he future with an open heart. Everyday, the Doctor inspires me to be just the same. To be the dreamer of improbable dreams.

I love the Doctor. Everything that he stands for.  I love the adventure and the wonder and the love.
And because of all this, I have always been able to the Doctor, to his outlook.
But now, I can really relate. I can see myself in the Doctor like never before.
The Doctor, now, is a woman.

This doesn't change who the character really is, she will still be the dreamer and the explorer.

Tonight's first episode showed me just that. She did everything she could to help these people. It didn't matter that she was still weak from regenerating, or that she was missing her Tardis and her sonic screwdriver. She tried to save the people in trouble.

The core of the Doctor is this care for other life, no matter what they've done or what they'll do. Whether they're human or Ice Warriors of Mars or a star whale on a spaceship. It has always been about helping other, just as a Doctor would do.

Tonight's episode was completely brilliant. Jodie Whittaker stepped into the role with such grace, capturing the confidence and care of the Doctor. She was funny and smart, and when faced with the darkness of the situation, she took it in stride. She flashed a smile and her brand new sonic, and kept on.

I cannot wait to see this new Doctor take on the universe, with this brilliant group of friends by her side. Thirteen will make a mark on this universe, both in the show and in our world. And she will make a mark on my heart.

And I will continue on doing as the Doctor says,

Laugh hard.

Run fast.

Be kind.

Word of the week: doctor
